Settlement
Settlement is the moment the money from a sale actually reaches an account you own.
A buyer pays and their payment travels through a short chain of banks and providers before any of it is really yours. Settlement is the last step in that trip. It's the point where the approved money is sitting in your account and you can spend it. It happens on every sale and it's the reason there's usually a small gap between someone clicking pay and you seeing the funds.
You can think of the payment as a trip and settlement as the arrival. Everything before it is the money on its way. Settlement is the money finally home.
How settlement works
A buyer pays through your buy button and that payment gets routed to the provider you connected. The provider checks with the buyer's bank that the money is really there. Once it's approved the provider holds it for a short while to watch for fraud or a dispute and then moves it into the account you own. That final move is the settlement. From that moment the money is yours.
Why there's a gap between paying and settling
Settlement rarely happens the instant a buyer pays because the provider runs safety checks first. It holds the funds long enough to be sure the money was really there and to leave room for a buyer to dispute a charge that went wrong. That waiting period is called the settlement window. How long it runs depends entirely on the provider and the way the buyer chose to pay. Some clear in a day or two and others can be quicker or slower. You don't set that timing. Your provider does.
Who controls settlement and who doesn't
This is the part worth being honest about. The provider you connect runs the whole settlement. It decides the window. It can place a hold. It sets the schedule the money moves on. A convenience layer sitting on top of your providers can't change any of that and Coin Moebius doesn't pretend to. We never touch the money and we can't speed a settlement up or override a provider's hold because it isn't our system to override. What we do is simpler and honest: we let one buy button talk to the providers you've connected so every payment settles straight into an account you own. Non-custodial just means the money is never ours to hold. It goes from your buyer to you.
Where this leaves you if you sell from your own site
Knowing what settlement is tells you when to expect your money and why the wait exists. Here's the practical version. You paste one buy button onto the site you already have and you connect the providers you already use. Each payment settles on the schedule your provider runs and goes straight into the account you own because we're never in the middle of it. We charge a flat fee for the convenience instead of taking a cut of every sale. You can read how the buy button works or see what it costs whenever you're ready.
Get paid without the plumbing
Coin Moebius is the part behind the button, so you do not have to build it.
